About the Artist
Katie Ann Mertz
Katie Ann Mertz (b. 1986) is an emerging painter from Rochester. Mertz earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts from State University College at Brockport. In her painting, Mertz focuses on process based abstraction bursting with color, shape and pattern.
According to the artist, “Generally, I’m a non object, geometric, abstract painter and mark maker, however I do like to explore shapes from nature and abstract them in a way that I see them. I subscribe to modern color theory and use bright colors, bold shapes and meditative marks to explore design and composition … I use art as a way to process my emotions and deal with sensory overload.” Mertz sites Hilma af Klint and Wassily Kandinsk as artists that influence her work.
Mertz has participated in Members Exhibitions at RoCo. Visit Mertz’s Instagram page to learn more of her work: @artwithkatieann
RoCo’s Davis-Havens Sales Gallery offers artworks of all styles at a range of prices, all to benefit Rochester Contemporary Art Center. Hundreds of artworks, which have been donated by collectors (and some artists), are rotated on view regularly. Artworks have been given expressly for this ongoing fundraiser so prices are often significantly discounted. All proceeds from the sale of these artworks support the long term future of RoCo.
Our Future Fund Featured Find is a new initiative highlighting a different artwork and artist each month.
