About the Artist
Karlos Cárcamo is a multidisciplinary artist whose work touches on themes that incorporate high and low cultural references, art history, and urban culture. Born in El Salvador, Cárcamo’s family emigrated to New York City in the 1970s, where he attended school, receiving a BFA from the School of Visual Arts and an MFA from Hunter College.
His work has been exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally, including at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, El Museo del Barrio, Bronx Museum of the Arts, Museo de Arte de El Salvador, Dean Project (NY), and Galería Espacio Míinimo (Madrid), among many others.
Cárcamo was awarded residency at Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture (Madison, ME) in 1998, the Atlantic Center for the Arts (New Smyrna Beach, FL) in 2002, and the Lower Eastside Printshop (NY) in 2009. His work has been reviewed in Art in America, The New York Times, and the Village Voice, among other publications.
Cárcamo has also worked within the Museum field as an art installer, exhibitions preparator, and conservation picture framer for over 25 years at venues such as International Center of Photography, Asia Society, Queens Museum, and Museum of Modern Art. In 2019, Cárcamo served as the juror for RoCo’s exhibition Take Back the Walls, which featured work by over 20 New York State artists who also worked for arts institutions.

RoCo’s Davis-Havens Sales Gallery offers artworks of all styles at a range of prices, all to benefit Rochester Contemporary Art Center. Hundreds of artworks, which have been donated by collectors (and some artists), are rotated on view regularly. Artworks have been given expressly for this ongoing fundraiser so prices are often significantly discounted. All proceeds from the sale of these artworks support the long term future of RoCo.
Our Future Fund Featured Find is a new initiative highlighting a different artwork and artist each month.
