About the Artist
Jack Wolsky
1930 –
Jack Wolsky is an American Contemporary painter. A Rochester native, Wolsky graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School and received a full-tuition art scholarship to RIT, where he received his associate’s degree. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War before going back to school at the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.
Wolsky was a Professor of Art at the State University College at Brockport for 35 years. As a professor, he encouraged his students to find their own artistic style and has been recognized as having an inspirational role as a teacher and painter.
When he retired from active teaching at SUNY Brockport, a scholarship was established in his honor. Wolsky also received the Chancellor’s Award from the State University of New York in 1979 and State University of New York Research Fellowships in 1973, 1970, and 1968.
Wolsky’s paintings have been exhibited extensively throughout New York State and the surrounding areas. His work is also in many private and public collections, including the Memorial Art Gallery, Rochester Institute of Technology, Eastman Kodak Company, Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute (Utica, NY), New Britain Museum of American Art (New Britain, CT), and the Charles Rand Penney Collection (Buffalo, NY).
Wolsky is also a long-time member of RoCo, and has been a member of the Arena Art Group since the 1960s, being included in many of both organization’s Members Exhibitions. He served as a juror for the Monroe County-Greater Rochester International Airport Competition in 2011 and has served as a member of the Advisory Board of the RIT Alumni Association.
RoCo’s Davis-Havens Sales Gallery offers artworks of all styles at a range of prices, all to benefit Rochester Contemporary Art Center. Hundreds of artworks, which have been donated by collectors (and some artists), are rotated on view regularly. Artworks have been given expressly for this ongoing fundraiser so prices are often significantly discounted. All proceeds from the sale of these artworks support the long term future of RoCo.
Our Future Fund Featured Find is a new initiative highlighting a different artwork and artist each month.
